Tony Roche reviewA short review of the troubling similarities between the paintings of Tony Roche and some of New Zealand's pre-eminent landscape painters.To anyone interested in traditional New Zealand landscape art, the paintings that Tony Roche has displayed through social media and the websites of art galleries that represent him, may seem familiar. A quick online search would reveal the reason why; many of his paintings appear to be based on other peoples work. In fact they look like direct copies of paintings by some of New Zealand's top landscape artists. Being sold as originals brings up the issue of copyright infringement which will be determined by others, but hopefully this short review informs the art community and helps bring attention to any unethical practices that may harm the integrity of the New Zealand art market.
